The Write Retreat Ltd - The Farmhouse B&B at Kerivoa & Creative Writing Holidays
About Us ~ The owners of The Farmhouse B&B at Kerivoa
John and Katherine Parris are from Axminster, Devon and Lyme Regis, Dorset  and married in 1997.  They followed their separate careers whilst also renovating their cottage in Somerset before deciding to leave England and move to Brittany, France to enjoy a slower pace and better quality of life. They took the scenic route by living in London and then Belgium before settling in Brittany, France.
John, Lily & Kerig at Lac de Guerladan, where you can hire a boat for the hour or day and pull up alongside a lakeside local restaurant or go sailing, waterski-ing, kayaking or just sunbathe and watch the kids in their child friendly play areaJohn  is retired from the RAF and is now a freelance consultant, taking him to many countries, meeting and making many new friends; who often find their way down to Brittany for a weekend of getting away from it all.  A keen and experienced BSAC Diving Instructor ensures that when John is not working (and the renovations allow) he is to be found by the coast.

Pet Friendly holidays can have escorted and guided walks alongside the abbey of Bon Repas, take in a local market, and have a pub lunch overlooking the canal.Katherine was Sales & Customer Care Director in the family coffee business (J Bolton & Son)  for 18 years and comes from a family who have always run B&B's.  She has since turned her training experience and skills to her hobby of Writing, and retrained as a Creative Writing Instructor now working in Europe on a freelance basis.  She is also currently taking her Masters Degree in Children's Literature at Roehampton University and carried our voluntary work at The V&A Museum cataloguing the Renier Children's Book Collection.   Together with John they collected 12,000+ Children's Books to create 6 new libraries in the Outer Atolls of The Maldives following the Tsunami. Along with dog-walking and horse riding Katherine, a published writer, also enjoys writing Chick-lit and children's stories. She is a member of SWWJ (The Society of Women Writers and Journalists), IBBY (International Book Board for Young People) NAWG (National Association of Writing Groups), The Bronte Society and workshop leader at The Writers' Summer School, Swanwick.
Together Katherine and John bought The Farmhouse B&B at Kerivoa near Bourbriac; a dilapidated farm with many outbuildings in a Bronze Age Historic Site of Kerivoa in rural Brittany.  It was uninhabitable and without water or sewerage facilities, but slowly and painstakingly and to their exacting standards the Farmhouse and Annexe are now converted into their family home and Bed and Breakfast.  During this renovation project, The Old School House in Bolazec took Katherine's eye, and even though it was derelict and a much bigger project than any of their previous renovations, it's potential was truly visible.  This grand old town house is now completed, and has been renovated to a very high standard with local artisans, and a hand-made oak staircase twists and turns over the three floors.  The top floor luxury bedroom has exposed beams, windows overlooking the Monts d'Arree, a sauna and jacuzzi bath. Luxury power showers have been installed throughout and the design is calm and collected; reflecting the need of it's visitors to relax, chill-out and recharge their batteries. Bookings for The Old School House and Rooms at Bolazec can be made now by calling +33(0)296436361.
Katherine and John are now realising their dream by opening the doors of their Farmhouse B&B at Kerivoa as a location for Pet Friendly Holidays, Writing Retreats, and  Residential Creative Writing Courses,
